It seems that gaming keyboards have become the preferred choice of young people nowadays compared to regular keyboards. Gaming keyboards are special keyboards designed to enhance the gaming experience and are usually equipped with special features such as macro keys, RGB lighting effects and high response speeds, so their common problems and troubleshooting methods may be different from those of regular keyboards.

ATK Gaming Gear has collected some common gaming keyboard problems and provided troubleshooting and solutions for keyboard enthusiasts. If you're interested, read on with us!

1. Keystrokes are unresponsive or delayed

Reconnect the keyboard: Make sure the keyboard is connected stably, try replacing the USB port or using the port on the back of the motherboard.

Check Gaming Mode: Some gaming keyboards have a "Gaming Mode" switch that may disable certain keys, such as the Windows key. Check and make sure this feature is not accidentally enabled.

Update drivers: Make sure the keyboard drivers and firmware are up-to-date, this may fix compatibility issues.

Check for input lag: If there is a key input lag during gameplay, check if too many background processes are open or system resources are being used up too much, close unnecessary programs.

2. RGB light effect does not work or abnormal

Check the light effect settings: Check if the light effect settings are correct through the software or shortcut keys accompanying the keyboard. You may need to adjust the brightness or re-select the light mode.

Update Firmware and Software: Abnormal RGB light effects may be a firmware or software issue. Updating to the latest version may solve the problem.

Reset Keyboard: Most gaming keyboards support the function of restoring factory settings, which can be used to reset the light effect by key combination or software.

3. Macro keys are not working or cannot be set

Check the macro settings: Check if the macros are set correctly with the software accompanying the keyboard (e.g. ATK V HUB). If the software is malfunctioning, try reinstalling or updating it.

Conflicting in-game settings: Some games may not allow external macro key input, check if similar settings are restricted or disabled within the game.

Reprogramming Macro Keys: Delete and reprogram the macros to make sure the settings are correct.

4. Keyboard malfunction or crash

Firmware update: some gaming keyboards may crash under certain circumstances, updating the firmware can usually solve this problem.

Check USB power supply: If the keyboard loses power or reboots, the USB power supply may be insufficient, you can try to connect the keyboard to a different USB port, especially the one where the motherboard provides power directly.

5. Key Repeat Input

Adjust the keyboard repeat speed: Adjust the keyboard repeat speed in the keyboard settings of your operating system, or adjust the key response time in the keyboard's supporting software.

Check the anti-ghosting function: Some keyboards are equipped with anti-ghosting and N-key rollover functions, check if these settings are normal.

6. Keyboard not detected by game

Check game compatibility: Some older or specific games may not be compatible with advanced gaming keyboards, try to disable the relevant advanced features (e.g. macro function) within the game or in the settings.

Use keyboard mode switching: Some gaming keyboards offer mode switching (e.g. normal mode vs. game mode), try switching to a different mode.

7. Keyboard lock function

Check if the key lock feature is enabled: some gaming keyboards allow locking specific keys or the keyboard as a whole, make sure this feature is not enabled, especially in game mode.

8. Volume control or multimedia keys on keyboard not working

Check drivers and software: Some multimedia keys require specialized drivers to work properly, check and update the keyboard drivers.

Operating system settings: Check the multimedia key settings in your operating system to make sure there are no conflicts or disables.

9. Light synchronization issues (e.g. mismatch with other devices)

Check synchronization settings: If the keyboard supports synchronization of light effects with other devices (e.g. mouse, headset), make sure that the software and firmware of all devices are up-to-date and correctly set in the same control software.

Adjusting the synchronization frequency: Some software allows manual adjustment of the synchronization frequency, try to adjust it to match the light effect.

10. Keyboard noise or vibration

Check the keyboard feet: Make sure the keyboard's non-slip feet are not damaged or worn to prevent excess vibration or noise when pressing keys.

Vibration dampening pads: If noise is a serious problem, consider using keyboard vibration dampening pads to reduce keystroke sound and vibration.
